Ahold Delhaize shares climate update with Dutch NGO Milieudefensie

Zaandam, the Netherlands, April 13, 2022 - Today Ahold Delhaize shared a climate update with Dutch NGO Milieudefensie. The climate update is available below.

There is consensus around the globe that what we do now to slow climate change over the next decade is critical to ensuring a healthy future for all of us. Our stakeholders are increasingly interested to understand how companies are reducing their negative impact on the planet and have high expectations around transparency and traceability.

As a parent company of 19 retail brands in the United States, Europe and Indonesia, Ahold Delhaize has a role to play in the transition to a healthy and sustainable global food system. This is a central part of our Leading Together strategy.

At Ahold Delhaize, we believe that what’s healthy and sustainable should be accessible and available to all. We are working towards this through our “Grounded in Goodness” health and sustainability approach, that focuses on healthier people and a healthier planet.

Grounded in Goodness is based on the idea that the world’s health crisis and climate crisis are intrinsically linked. Acting responsibly today is imperative to securing a better tomorrow for generations to come.

Our approach ensures the decisions we make are grounded in doing the right thing for people and planet. We collaborate closely with our partners and our brands to empower customers to join this journey with us. It’s a careful balance. As mainstream grocery retailers, we need to do this in addition to maintaining a clear focus on product affordability, diverse assortments and quality, all of which are of paramount importance to our brands’ diverse customers and communities.

As we drive improvements in our own operations, we also partner across the value chain to help develop markets with the right supply and demand to support and sustain the growth of healthier and more sustainable diets and a robust, more resilient food supply system. Informing, encouraging and engaging is at the heart of our approach to develop customers demands and bring customers along, creating lasting behavior change.

With the most recent IPCC report just out, the world is more conscious than ever about the immediate steps we all need to take to mitigate climate change. At Ahold Delhaize we’re committed to doing our part.
