Supporting healthier living with Stop & Shop’s Community Health and Wellness Fair

September 13, 2024 – As a food retailer, Ahold Delhaize and our brands recognize the vital role we play in the health of customers and communities. Our aim is to strike the right balance in inspiring, guiding and supporting people to engage in positive habits. Recently, our U.S. brand Stop & Shop demonstrated their commitment to supporting healthier living with their third annual Community Health and Wellness Fair.

Held at Stop & Shop’s Grove Hall store in Boston, this location has a dedicated in-store dietitian and community wellness space built to host nutrition, financial wellness, and physical activity programs, all at no cost to the community.

The event featured over a dozen locally based businesses and organizations covering various health and wellness categories. The day consisted of activities including kids' entertainment, nutrition education and “healthy eating on a budget” supermarket tours. Attendees benefited from health screenings, giveaways, and movement clinics with Black Girls Run, an organization dedicated to fostering a community of inclusion and unity and helping to improve health outcomes.

The event embodied Stop & Shop’s broader mission to educate and empower customers and their families to make healthier food choices and lead healthier lives. Specific activities and resources aimed at educating and inspiring attendees included:

  • Nutrition education and resources by Stop & Shop Registered Dietitians.
  • Samaritans, a nonprofit organization, provided mental health advice.
  • The Harvard Family Van offered blood sugar, cholesterol, and blood pressure checks, along with resources from Tufts Dental School.
  • Information on weight loss programs and free gym passes were available, courtesy of Healthworks Community Fitness.
  • Relaxation options included massages and chair yoga exercises from black-owned, woman-owned Imani massage and 4 Corners Yoga Wellness.
  • Attendees sampled free beverages and snacks from the Stop & Shop Mobile Marketing Truck and enjoyed music and a meal from a local restaurant.
  • Children enjoyed engaging activities like story time about healthy eating with the Grove Hall local library, as well as art projects with sparc! a traveling art studio known as the ArtMobile.

Overall, the successful event was attended by nearly 350 participants. “We wanted to create an event that connects our neighbors with the right wrap-around healthcare services that fit their health and wellness needs,” said Christine Sinclair, Registered Dietician, Stop & Shop Nutrition Partner at Grove Hall. “Our goal is to provide tangible resources to the community that will empower people on their journey to better health.”
